Fennekin - PixelArt by Suora91 Fennekin - PixelArt by Suora91
Well, my first X/Y-Pokémon. Yay. I have to admit that I did this one before Braixen was revealed. I really don't like Braixen at all and I probably never would've pixeled a Fenneking if I'd known its evolution...
Nevertheless, a Fennekin. There is not much to say about this one, just my usual Pokémon related pixel art.

Hello! This is a great piece of pixel art, and I'll be happy to critique it like you requested ^^

Firstly, I commend you for having such great detail in the anatomy of this! It looks amazing! And the pose as well- very dramatic and original! Though I did notice that Fennekin's left hind leg should be a bit more defined so that it would look like its heel comes out towards the viewer just a bit more.

I'd also like to say that you got all of the muscles and body parts proportionate! Though I see that the tail looks a bit awkward as it doesn't fit well with the flow of Fennekin's body. To explain more about this, I say make the tail thinner and less poofy in the sides? It wouldn't look as confusing if there something to indicate thy there is wind blowing upwards against Fennekin's body, so that it would make sense for it to look big.

Another thing I noticed is the shading. Absolutely astonishing, really! I like how you meant to put detail in the furs of the tail, though I see that the shading techniques you used for the body and tail are contradictory and confuse the viewer's eyes. The shading of its body causes it to look like yellow skin, rather than yellow fur. To fix this, you could put more detail into it! And for the shading of the tail- I'm rather against the shading used where you define almost every single fur of an animal's body, but only in certain circumstances. Like I said, if the figure is in an environment on which it causes the animal's fur to be defined in detail, than that's perfectly okay! Though here it seems like Fennekin is moving upward, and that the shading shouldn't be as defined on its tail and should actually be reversed .

The flames surrounding the pokemon's face looks perfect to me! Other than that, this piece is wonderful!

Of course, this piece is meant to enthuse the X & Y release, so the originality is going to be a little lower than it should be. The lighting is sort of off to me (on its back and tail), and the furs on the tail should be blended instead of edgy diamonds. Overall, this piece is really great! I like the shape of Fennekin's body, and I especially like the paws and ears. The fire is light and delicate, a beautiful aesthetic feature. The stern expression using Fennekin's eyes is really innovative, as this Pokemon is usually portrayed as particularly chibi, happy, or smug fox instead of showing its fighting potential. In my opinion, you did a great job here; just a few issues with the shading and the sharp-edged tail; if a brisk atmosphere isn't what you wanted to portray, of course! Great work!

Wow, nice job. Only thing I can think of is that the tail looks a little odd being textured so furry/spiky while its outline is mostly smooth.
